Thank you to everyone who showed up and showed out to make last night awards show one of the best we’ve ever had! We give a special thank you to the Majestic Theater for hosting us.

We can’t say enough about our video team, Hinckley Productions! If you have any video needs, Natalie Hinckley is the woman you want to see. She is a beast and her team does amazing work. Hinckley covered our entire awards show complete with a live stream and also produced the cyphers (stay tuned for those videos!).

We also extend a huge thank you to China Moon and Bartender 608 Intoxicologists and Cocktail Caterers! If you have a private party or event, there really isn’t anywhere else to look.

Finally, we thank Elijah McCloskey of Freewheel Bikes and Lothlorien Coop. Elijah has been a long time supporter of local Hip-Hop and we are honored to have him as a sponsor.

Thanks to Capital City Hues, our press partner this year, for exceptional coverage and support of this and so many other local events and causes. Thanks to everyone else who sponsored and supported this event and UCAN in general.

6TH ANNUAL MADISON HIP-HOP AWARDS SATURDAY, NOV 7

Event Will Feature Live Performances, Awards Ceremony with Proceeds Benefiting Local Charity

MADISON, WI – [Oct. 29, 2015] – The Urban Community Arts Network (UCAN), with support from Madison Media Institute, will present the sixth annual Madison Hip-Hop Awards (MHHA) show at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Barrymore Theatre, 2090 Atwood Ave. UCAN is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering and sustaining the local Hip-Hop scene through education and live music events in the community.

With over a dozen award categories, exclusive rap “cyphers” from Madison-based lyricists, and live performances by 2015 award recipients, the MHHA event will build on its traditions while ushering in a new generation of award recipients.  Performers include Amy Alida, Trilogy, EMCC Breakers, K.I.N.G. Kronos, and Play Fair Cypher.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the East Madison Community Center’s breakdance program.

“Madison has many extremely talented artists and MHHA gives them a chance to shine locally. Recognition such as this gives artists an edge when competing to enter regional and national music scenes,” says Karen Reece, UCAN president. “Consistency is something Madison Hip-Hop hasn’t seen, so celebrating our sixth year is important,” says UCAN founding member DJ Pain 1. Though Madison’s urban music community is both strong and accomplished, few opportunities are locally available, making the MHHA all the more vital for professional development and sustainability.

Hundreds of fans have cast votes in this year’s virtual ballot box by visiting the MHHA website at www.madisonhiphopawards.com. Some award categories include: Artist of the Year, Group, Producer, and Studio Engineer as well as awards for Best Videographer, Radio Personality, Album and Mixtape, among others. Each year, votes are independently counted and verified by Broadjam, a Madison-based music services company.

Tickets are currently available for $10 in advance and on the night of the event at the Barrymore box office. Donations for the event can also be made at the MHHA website.
