Join us in the community space at 633 W. Badger Rd, South Madison Center for Culture and Community (same building as Fountain of Life). Proceeds support Urban Community Arts Network programming.

$25 to battle (in advance, $30 day of event)

Come early (4-5pm) for a Q&A and networking session with our judges Jimi Kendrix (producer for Tupac, Jay-Z, Rick Ross), DJ Pain 1 (producer for Young Jeezy, Meek Mill, Public Enemy), and Godxilla (producer, professor, associate dean of MMI).

Producers interested in competing may reserve a spot by emailing madisonhiphopawards@gmail.com.

1st place winner gets $200 cash, a Keith McMillen QuNeo MIDI controller, DJ Pain 1’s drum kit, a free iStandard membership, a free teaser kit and a free slot in the iStandard event on July 29th (a total value of over $700).

2nd place winner gets a pair of Sennheiser HD205 II studio headphones from Guitar Center, an MPC t-shirt from Crates Clothing, and DJ Pain 1’s drum kit.

Battle Format

>>Round 1: one 60 second beat
>>Round 2: one 60 second beat
>>Round 3: one 60 second beat
Final Round: two 60 second beats


  1. Producers must have a separate beat for each round. Beats should be “all ages” appropriate.
  2. Bring that heat! On a labeled CD or flash drive no exceptions.

Sole@frequencySee Sole live at The Frequency. Sole, a Hip-Hop veteran known for founding the Anticon label, his work with Deep Puddle Dynamics (along with Slug. Dose and Alias) and his 2003 breakout album “Selling Live Water,” has been called an “Indie hip hop legend” by The Huffington Post and a “true revolutionary” by Pitchfork Magazine. Frequent Sole collaborators DJ Pain 1 and Memory will be providing music.

Additionally, recipients of the 2013 Madison Hip-Hop Awards, UCAN’s flagship charity event, will receive their plaques on stage throughout the evening. Be on the lookout for your favorite local celebrities. $7, 21+

The Urban Community Arts Network and Madison Media Institute are starting 2013 with a boom, a booming 808 drum loop that is. On Saturday, June 8th, from 4-8PM, Madison will be transformed into a musical battleground on which beatmakers will compete for a cash, clothing and publicity prize pot.

Judges include Ivan Rivera, manager of the multi-platinum, Grammy winning production group J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, MMI Associate Dean and veteran producer/engineer Chris “Godxilla” Taylor and Madison’s own gold-selling producer DJ Pain 1.

Come early for a professional development Q&A session with the judges and stay for the intense competition and featured performances (Carlito, OMoney and YT the Beast). Enjoy dynamic hosting by Mr. Getyourbuzzup and music by Memory.
