The Madison Hip-Hop Awards (MHHA) were founded in May of 2010 based on an idea by Mark Evans and Dexter Patterson as a response to the need to bring positive attention to Madison's talented and dedicated Hip-Hop scene. Throughout the planning process for the first MHHA, organizers recognized multiple areas where the Hip-Hop community can use their art to enhance the general community and founded the local non-profit agency Urban Community Arts Network, Ltd (UCAN). UCAN's mission is, in part, to empower and unify youth and adults in the Madison area using urban arts, specifically Hip-Hop. UCAN/MHHA board members are listed below, however, MHHA would not be possible without the generous support and contributions of artists, fans and business-owners in Madison and beyond.

Karen Reece, President
Karen was born and raised in Madison. She does science by day and follows the music by night. As a classically-trained cellist and occasional singer, Karen has a great ear for music and a particular love for local rock and Hip-Hop. She loves to support local musicians who are grinding for the art. Attempts at moving away have been futile, but with raw talent like this all around, who cares? In Karen's words, "Don’t sleep on the 608."

Mark 'ShaH' Evans, Vice-President
ShaH eats, sleeps and breathes Hip-Hop. It's in his speech, step, style and soul. ShaH has been booking both local and national acts in Madison and surrounding cities for about five years. As a former member of Top of the Map Entertainment, co-founding member of Midwest Coop, and artist manager, ShaH is a collaborative supporter of local Hip-Hop. Recently, ShaH was hired as Content Manager for Get Your Buzz Up.com and Coast2Coast Mixtapes and as Vice President of Get Your Buzz Up. He is also on the sales team for Coast2Coast Mixtapes, the most downloaded Mixtapes in the World! You will find ShaH onstage hosting local events or hosting various mixtapes. In ShaH's own words, "I AM A FATHER FIRST AND FOREMOST. My children and wife are my life!"

Steven Potter, Treasurer
Steve first found Hip-Hop at the age of six when he was given a breakdancing beat tape and a boombox. And he hasn't left it alone since. A seasoned reporter, he's written about Hip-Hop culture and rap for more than a dozen years for numerous publications around the state. He is also the managing editor for Madison's newest entertainment magazine, The M.A.D.

Pacal 'DJ Pain 1' Bayley, Secretary
In the late 90's, Pacal "DJ Pain 1" Bayley, born in the midwest region of the United States, spent most of his time writing graffiti and soaking in whatever bit of hip-hop culture he was able. Now an adult, he carries multiple titles, including that of a certified secondary educator, professional hip-hop producer, and mixshow DJ and Host.
Recently, he released his first album "The Waiting Game," a 19 track LP produced entirely by him. The album features artists ranging from Rain, Joell Ortiz, and Gucci Mane to Money B and Jim Jones.
Having both a background in hip-hop and education, he has worked within and
helped develop multiple academic and art-related enrichment programs. In addition to program development, Pain 1 uses his background as a hip-hop DJ and gold-certified producer to teach multimedia-- audio production and engineering, graphic design and video production-- to high school and college students.

Rebecca 'Bosslady' Barber
Bosslady is a passionate supporter of Madison Hip-Hop. She is currently a Manager and Marketing/Promotion representative for AFGM (A Few Good Men), a volunteer for WORT 89.9 and a member of Madison Hip-Hop Coalition.
Bosslady has a degree in Marketing and Business Administration/Human Resources and is a proud parent of one daughter. In her own words, "Hip Hop isn't just beats...it is your state of mind."

Joe Ramos, Videography
Joe is a musician, artist and aspiring filmmaker who founded
JoeGuerilla.com
in the fall of 2009 as a way to give something back to the music scene he had been a part of since his late childhood. Fascinated with both the world of Guerilla Filmmaking and Live Music, Joe leveraged the insight gained from his college training and professional audio career, and began filming his friends performances at local venues in Madison, WI.
As of today, Joe has filmed over 100 artists, directed 4 Music Videos, and worked on an assortment of short films, commercials, promotional videos, and the television series TORC: The Off-road Championship for Discovery HD Theater.
Joe's wife, Jen, was an invaluable resource for the fundraising efforts for the first annual Madison Hip-Hop Awards. The pair stays busy with their four beautiful daughters.
