Urban Community Arts Network (UCAN) and Madison Media Institute will present the Level Up music industry conference on Saturday, October 4, 2014.

Madison-based nonprofit, UCAN, and Madison Media Institute announce the third annual Level Up music industry conference. On Saturday, October 4, 2014, Madison Media Institute (2702 Agriculture Dr,) will host this professional development and networking event for aspiring music industry professionals. This year’s event boasts guest presenters Cardo (producer of Meek Mill’s hit song ‘Levels’), J Hatch (founder of iStandard), DJ Pain 1 (platinum producer) and many more.

The event, open to the public of all ages, will include workshops on social media marketing, beatmaking/production, audio engineering, music licensing, and other valuable topics for artists and industry professionals.

Artists and businesses interested in having a presence at this one-of-a-kind event should contact madisonhiphopawards@gmail. com. Sponsorships at the $100 level include a logo on all promotional materials for the event, items (e.g. flyers or CDs) handed to attendees and a dinner with our judges. Join us in the community space at 633 W. Badger Rd, South Madison Center for Culture and Community (same building as Fountain of Life). Proceeds support Urban Community Arts Network programming.

$5 to watch
$25 to battle (in advance, $30 day of event)

Come early (4-5pm) for a Q&A and networking session with our judges Jimi Kendrix (producer for Tupac, Jay-Z, Rick Ross), DJ Pain 1 (producer for Young Jeezy, Meek Mill, Public Enemy), and Godxilla (producer, professor, associate dean of MMI ).

Producers interested in competing may reserve a spot by emailing madisonhiphopawards@madisonhiphopawards.com .

1st place winner gets $200 cash, a Keith McMillen QuNeo MIDI controller, DJ Pain 1’s drum kit, a free iStandard membership, a free teaser kit and a free slot in the iStandard event on July 29th (a total value of over $700).

2nd place winner gets a pair of Sennheiser HD205 II studio headphones from Guitar Center , an MPC t-shirt from Crates Clothing, and DJ Pain 1’s drum kit.

Battle Format

>>Round 1: one 60 second beat
>>Round 2: one 60 second beat
>>Round 3: one 60 second beat
Final Round: two 60 second beats

Rules:

  1. Producers must have a separate beat for each round. Beats should be “all ages” appropriate.
  2. Bring that heat! On a labeled CD or flash drive no exceptions.

Urban artists in the Madison area are invited to learn about business strategies in the “New Industry”. We will focus on business aspects such as goal-setting,professional networking both in person and online, and building a budget, and marketing aspects such as building a brand to define an artist’s identity and effective promotional strategies. The event will conclude with Q&A as time allows. Local urban artists will be able to use the information presented at this event to develop a realistic path forward in their music careers.

Artists of all levels should attend, network, learn and share!

$25 to enter! (half goes toward the prize package, half to cover event costs)
You pay only if you make it to Round 2.
Round 2 : one 1 minute beat
Round 3 : two 1 minute beats
